Sega Master System Emulators

| Name | Description |
| BRSMS | This is a Sega Master System and Game Gear emulator. It runs full speed on a 486 DX-66, and has sound emulated, including voice support. Most games are playable, although a few still do not work correctly. It even has serial cable support! It's definitely worth a download for those with slow computers, as well as those who want a great SMS/GG emulator which does not cost any money. |
| Calypso | Here's the newest of the SMS/GG emulators, and this one (while it doesn't look like much now) has high hopes. The author wants it to become a multi-emulator for all Sega systems in existance. Currently, it has relatively low compatibility, some sound support, and uses the RAZE Z80 engine. Give it a try. |
| CHASMS | This fairly recent emulator, coded by the author of the Verge RPG-creation engine, is a promising new SMS/GG emulator with a GUI that resembles the old NESticle GUI. While it's nowhere as good as MEKA yet, it has a number of features that MEKA doesn't have, such as a Pro Action Replay cheat finder. This looks to be one of the better emulators available. Pick it up. |
| Cogwheel | A software emulator primarily for 8-bit Sega hardware, such as the Sega Master System, Sega Game Gear and SG-1000. The ColecoVision is also supported. The project uses a modular design based around a Z80 core emulator class library. The rest of the Sega-specific emulation is implemented in another class library, and the user interface is implemented as a separate application. This would allow the main emulator to be easily adapted to different interfaces. The code is written in C#3 (targetting .NET 2.0). The user interface uses Windows Forms, with SlimDX being used to render the graphical output to the form as quickly as possible. Last update: 2009-01-05 |
| Dega | Dega is a Sega Master System and Game Gear emulator, which runs under Windows 95, NT, 98, 2000, ME or XP. |
| Emukon | Emukon (formerly known as eSMS) is a Sega Master System and Game Gear emulator. It runs on Windows and needs DirectX7.0+. It includes a nice GUI, a cool debugger and some video filters. It runs most games flawlessly if your computer is fast enough. |
| FoolsSMS | Sega Master System emulator written using Marat's old z80 core. The compatibility is high, but the emulator has no sound. |
| FreezeSMS | FreezeSMS is an SMS emulator that already has high compatibility and a reasonable speed. |
| GGBoy | This is a Game Gear emulator made by Maechiko (author of *Fan emulators) with a nice interface and decent speed. Try it out. |
| Kega Fusion | Fusion is a Sega SG1000, SC3000, Master System, Game Gear, Genesis/Megadrive, SegaCD/MegaCD and 32X emulator for Win9x/ME/2000/XP. Please note that this is a beta version and the author would appreciate any and all feedback. |
| Massage | This is the Final release of Massage, it now has some preliminar support for Sega SG computers family. (Rename the files to .SMS). |
| MasterGear | The DOS version of Mastergear was last updated over two years ago, and as such is nowhere near the performance level that the current Windows version is. It has a fair compatibility rate, decent sound, and runs full speed on today's systems. There is a new version, 1.5. MasterGear is shareware, and there is no demo available for this version yet. |
| Masterlator | Masterlator is a Master System & Game Gear emulator project started from scratch in December 2001. Since it is written completely in ANSI C, it needs at least a Pentium II class PC to run smoothly, but it is highly portable across operating systems and processors. |
| MEKA | Zoop's MEKA emulates the Sega Master System, GameGear, SG-1000 and SC-3000 (the last 2 are computers) and also emulates the Colecovision and the Othello Multivision (it's staying in this section for now because SMS/GG is its primary function). It has a KILLER GUI, supports a very wide range of game, has sound support (you have to enable it), and supports many other 'extras' such as joystick support, lightgun emulation, save states, and so much more! I kid you not when I say this: MEKA is the SMS-GG emulator to end all SMS-GG emulators. It's also loaded with hidden 'easter eggs'! Download it now, you won't be sorry! MEKA has now been ported to Windows as MEKAW. MEKAW is far better for Windows NT/2000/XP users and works on Windows 9x/Me too. Default theme package is now included in the main ZIP file. Last release: 2008-06-19 |
| MesaDX | This Sega Master System, Game Gear, and Sega Mark III emulator is very good. It's been around for quite awhile now, so give it a try. |
| MGX | I guess everyone knows what DBOY is, so I'll just go ahead and say that this is a Game Gear emulator made by the team behind DBOY. I can't tell you much about it, since the documentation is japanese, but check it out anyway. |
| NeoSMS | This is a new SMS emulator that is already very complete. The compatabilty rate is 96-98%. |
| Past-O-Rama | Past-O-Rama is a free Windows9X/DirectX based emulator for the Sega SG1000, Master System, and GameGear systems. It requires at least DirectX 5.0. It plays 99% of tested SG1000 games and many SMS and GG games. |
| Saya RX-SMS | This is a brand new SMS emulator by Kilgamma encoded entirely in OBJ Pascal and compiled with Delphi. It is still in development. |
| SegaG3 | These two emulators are part of a series of japanese *fan98 emulators. They are both for Windows, with SMSFAN98 and GGFan Plus emulating the Sega Master System and GameGear respectively. They are both pretty fast, and should run full speed on a P133. They both have sound support, and I *think* the ability to log MIDIs is included. However, both are shareware, have directional controls disabled, and cost 2000 yen to register. I know nothing else about these emulators, anyone able to translate the documentation, please e-mail me.English documentation is available, courtesy of Issy. |
| SMaSher | This is a new Windows emulator by the same person who brought you the Genesis emulator, Xega. It is still in a relatively primitive state, but it looks promising. |
| SMS PlusSMS Plus/SDL | This is one of the newer Sega Master System/Game Gear emulators around. It runs full speed on any Pentium class machine, and has FM sound support. It has a lower compatibility rate than Massage, but it's still worth checking out for anyone who wants an alternative to Massage. Code rewritten completely for version 0.9. Portuguese TranslationThis is an SDL port of SMS PlusSDL release |
| vbsms+ | vbsms+ is an enhanced continuation of the vbsms project by john "brom" casey. It emulates the Sega Mark III, Master System, and Game Gear. Last release: 2008-10-09 |
| Wakalabis | This is a brand new SMS/GG emulator by Adriano Bedeschi & Eduardo Hisashi Sato. It sacrifices speed and performance for compatibility and accuracy. Give it a try! |
